Spacing rules for typing Morse
Spacing tells a reader where one letter ends. Without it, the same dots and dashes can spell different words.
Signal timing
Playback follows the standard unit timing. At 20 WPM one unit lasts 60 ms.
The ITU-R M.1677-1 standard states: “A dash is equal to three dots.” It also specifies three-unit gaps between letters and seven-unit gaps between words.
Why your Morse code translates wrong
Letters run together
Without spaces, ...---... could be SOS or VMS. The translator asks you to add spaces instead of guessing.
Unsupported characters
International Morse has no code for !, &, # or emoji. The translator stops at the first one and names it.
Look-alike symbols
Phones and fonts swap in • or — for dots and dashes. Type a period and a hyphen.

Which Morse code does this use?
International Morse code as defined in ITU-R M.1677-1. American railroad Morse uses different codes and is not supported.
What is SOS in Morse code?
SOS is ... --- .... Radio operators send it as one unbroken signal. When you type it, keep the spaces so it reads as three letters.
Can it decode Morse from a sound file or a photo?
No. It reads dots and dashes that you type or paste. It can play a signal, and it cannot listen to one.
